Capoeira

Capoeira is a dynamic art form from Brazil. It combines elements of expressive movement, percussion music, songs, acrobatics, and martial arts.

Its origins come from enslaved Africans who were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese in the early 16th century. These slaves disguised their defensive practice as a form of "dance" to hide it from their slave owners. That way, their oppressors would think that they were simply dancing instead of learning to fight and rebel.

The capoeira that we see today looks very different from what it did back then, as with any art form that has developed and changed over time. But its elements of disguise, deception, creativity, and physical expression remain as true to this exciting art form as ever.

Today, Capoeira can be found in almost every country in the world and its popularity and recognition is growing faster than ever.
